Is winter really on its way?

One morning this week it was very chilly when we got up for the day.  We began to think we had even had a frost.  Apparently not but it was very close.

We were concerned that our tomato plants may have suffered.  We have a lot of green tomatoes and we are hoping for just enough warmth and sunshine to harvest them before winter really sets in.

I went for a wander in the garden this morning and took some photos of flowers that are still on show for us.

The long hot summer has taken its toll on some of the plants but with a return of rain over the last week the plants are managing to hold on for a little while yet.

All too soon, the frosts will be here and these blooms will fade away until we start all over again next spring.

At least these images can provide a record to remind us that they will be back.

It's always hard to say "good-bye" to the beautiful flowers at the end of the season.

I'm making the most of what's still flowering in my garden - not a lot now after the big dry...
I found your blog via Kathy in Ozarks and just had to come and meet you!
I've got an urge to do some quilting but just have to finish another xstitch Christmas stocking for my newest french granddaughter first.
I see you are an avid quilter!

Here we are, yearning for spring and you are facing autumn. Your flowers are beautiful! I always wander around and take photos of my flowers as autumn nears, too. I always dread that first hard frost.

Thanks so much for joining in this week.

Your flowers are gorgeous! Such a welcome sight to those of us who still have snow and are anxiously awaiting spring.

Yes, I suppose winter is on it's way for you. If you need a break ~ come visit us in the USA. Wait a bit before you do though, still cold here.

Big Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

I'm always sad when the growing season is nearing its end. Putting the gardens to bed is my least favorite chore, not because of the work, but because I'll miss it so much. I hope the frost doesn't hurt any of your lovely vegetables or flowrs before you have a chance to harvest them. And here we are waiting for Spring to arrive in earnest! Topsy turvy world...

Thankfully the frosts are holding off and we are continuing to harvest the tomatoes and hope not to lose any of them.

Our Mother hated the way winter brought the annuals to an end for the year but I appreciate it is all part of the cycle of life and the memories tide me over to the next spring.

Hope spring come real soon for our friends in the Northern Hemisphere.
